When there are Taxation problems, here is where I look.
1) Utilities: Tax Rates
All Tax Rates ---- In the far right, edit each tax rate and check the settings.
--------- all that needs to be there is a tax rate 0.078 or whatever, tax description 1 or 2 activated, and No Exception. All other options should be unchecked.
Tax Categories
---- need Merchandise and No Tax at minimum
---- a tax rate must be assigned to the tax category
Description fields should be filled in.
Tax Groups need to be visible. Need to highlight each tax group in turn and make sure tax categories are liked to a proper tax rate.
2) Go to the Category List and make sure everything has a properly named tax category.
3) File: System: System Setup: Tax Options
--- I always change whatever it says to something else and then back again to the correct setting.
4) test with Quicksale an inventory item which is supposed to be charging tax (create a test inventory item if necessary)
5) test with a customer - check to see which tax group the customer is assigned to.
