How to make changes to Category Defaults

Specifically, you asked how you can change the Purchase By option from "case" to "each".  

But there are several options which can be changed for future inventory items and there is a way to apply these changes to existing inventory items en masse.

Answer:

The "category" can be corrected to define the "purchase by" value as well as whether the suggested pricing uses Margin or Markup.

1) go to Maintenance: Categories
2) edit the category in question
3) on the left, choose Detail - on the right you can change Margin to Markup as needed
4) on the left, choose Defaults - on the far right edit "Stock By" and "Order By" values as needed
5) choose OK to save your changes

Newly added products will now use these category settings.

How to Update Existing Inventory
If you would like those above changes to be applied to all of your existing inventory in that category...
1) go to Maintenance: Categories
2) highlight the category in question
3) choose the Defaults [F5] button in the upper left of the screen
4) review the list of options on both sides of the screen
5) choose Reset Inventory [F5] button in the bottom left
6) checkmark only those fields which you want to be applied to existing inventory
for example, you would check mark Order By to apply the new title of "each" to all existing inventory items in this category
7) choose Process [F10] button
POSitive will apply the changes and show how many records were changed.
