We use a product that we call ShowPOSitive made by ShowMyPC which uses TightVNC technology to remotely connect to your computer to aid in troubleshooting your software issues. From time-to-time we may run into a problem where it won't work on your computer.

One of the first steps in troubleshooting issues with ShowPOSitive Remote Support not working correctly is to determine whether or not TightVNC is already running on your computer. You can do this by looking in your computer's System Tray to see if the TightVNC icon tray is present. Another method is to review your list of installed applications in Windows by going to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Programs and Features. If you discover that TightVNC is already running on your computer, consult a POSitive Support technician for an alternate method of connecting remotely to your computer.

If, however, you have determined that TightVNC is not installed or running on your computer, the next step in troubleshooting is to completely remove ShowPOSitive from your computer.

First, make sure that you don't have an instance of ShowPOSitive already running on your computer by opening your Windows Task Manager. You can do this by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del and choosing Task Manager from the displayed options:

Windows 10:
- Click the 'Details' tab (you may have to click 'More details' at the bottom of Task Manger in order to see it)
- Click the 'Name' column header, to sort the list alphabetically
- Look for 'SMPCSetup.exe' and right-click on it
- Choose 'End Task'
- Then choose 'End process' to the next dialog box that pops up
Next...
- Look for 'spcplink.exe' and right-click on it
- Choose 'End Task'
- Then choose 'End process' to the next dialog box that pops up

Next, ShowPOSitive does not get installed in the traditional sense and only temporarily uses files and folders which Windows will typically remove automatically once the application has been closed. However, to completely remove ShowPOSitive from your system do the following:

- Delete the 'positiveSupport....exe' program you downloaded and started from wherever you downloaded it to (e.g. Desktop, My Downloads, etc.). You can use Windows File Explorer to search "positivesupport*.exe"
- Delete your web browser's cache. Here's how: http://goo.gl/mEs3ZA
- Delete all files in folder C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Temp
- Delete all files in folder C:\Program Files (x86)\ShowMyPCService
- Delete all files in folder C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\TightVNC

There may be other networking issues going on if you are still unable to get ShowPOSitive working. In cases like these, we will generally recommend that we try an alternate method of connecting remotely to your computer. Consult POSitive Support for more information.

Facts About ShowPOSitive:
- No connection is kept active after you have terminated ShowPOSitive.
- No user can access your PC using ShowPOSitive after the program has been closed.
- If you are still not sure, you can always restart your PC and all programs will be terminated.
