Is there any way that I can find out which order is holding part of my stock without going to the pending order screen and looking through the orders 1 by 1? There used to be a very useful box on the stock manager screen where I could double click and learn that information, but apparently that is not considered necessary anymore and has been removed.

Yes there is.
1) Highlight the item in inventory center
2) Choose Item Activity on the left and the first tab shows customer orders.
Another method is to use the InfoBar
1) On the Inventory center select the button to the LEFT of the Locate field.
2) This is the infoBar and you can view Orders and other things for any highlighted inventory item.
