Account Number Is Already In Use

ISSUE:
When I try to setup a new customer it automatically assigns an account number and lookup code but when I try to save the new customer it tells me that number is already used and it forces me to create my own. How can I correct this so that when generating this number it selects the next number but one not already used?

SOLUTION:
This is only if you are familiar and comfortable with using Topscan

1) Add a new temporary customer to the Customer List
2) Using Topscan open CUSTOMER.TPS, subfile CUSMER
3) Increment the Id in the Id field for the newly added record to a higher unused number
4) Close and save changes
5) Add a new customer to the Customer List - should work fine now
6) Delete the temporary customer
