QUESTION
------------------------------------------------------
I'm trying to add inventory that is not in the data base, but when I try PFW is saying the item already exists.
ANSWER
------------------------------------------------------
Most likely the error reads:
"You have tried to add an inventory item with the same description as an item that is already in your Internet Inventory list. Please change the description of the item you are trying to add. "
There are two courses of action you could take.
1) In spite of the error message, you will be able to add the inventory item. Nevertheless, you may want to go to your Internet Inventory List and edit or remove the item.
2) Run a verification of inventory to bring items into synchronization
Go to Inventory: Maintenance: Verify Inventory Files
If you are using a network version of PFW, make sure that all other computers are not using PFW before choose Yes to verify.
When the verification is finished, the item will likely be in the inventory list.
More Details:
There are actually two databases involved here. When looking at the Inventory List, you are viewing the BARCODES database. When you edit an inventory item you are accessing an ITEMS database. For one reason or another, the two databases were out of syncronization and you could not find the item in the Inventory List. Running Verify Inventory Files brings them back into syncronization.
